Innovation: Airport Experience

Technology is no longer an outer layer; it runs through every link of the human experience, blurring the line between online and physical. The airport is the ultimate proving ground for this integration: an ecosystem where the synergy between passenger and ground crew must be absolute for a flawless operation.

The Challenge: Turning Complexity into Flow
LATAM called us in to solve a critical point in its Self Bag Drop process: revenue lost to unidentified excess baggage and operational delays caused by human error. The brief was clear: efficiency, autonomy and a tangible improvement in dispatch times.

The Solution: Smart, Autonomous, Strategic Hardware
Our answer was a state-of-the-art digital scale, designed under our "Fresh Experience" philosophy. We created a prototype unique in the region —fully wireless and autonomous— that understands not only the airline's profitability but also the on-site employee's operation.

The Impact: Every Minute Counts
More than a design object, we delivered an operational management tool. The result is a direct reduction in airport fines for tarmac delays, optimised excess-baggage revenue and a user experience that empowers the passenger through autonomy.

Attributes of a 360° Innovation:

  • Ergonomics and Integral Safety: Designed to guarantee passenger safety as well as the safety of check-in staff when moving the unit through the terminal.
  • Built for Intensive Use: High-impact construction to withstand rough handling and the constant flow of thousands of people, ensuring uninterrupted operation in mission-critical environments.
  • Wireless Autonomy: Equipped with its own battery, allowing strategic placement anywhere in the terminal without relying on power outlets.
  • High-Visibility Interface: A display system with traffic-light style signals that lets passengers see in seconds whether their baggage meets the allowed parameters.
  • Adaptive Morphological Design: We redesigned the solution for each scenario, from the monumental scale required at Ezeiza (2.5 m totems) to the agility and human flow of Aeroparque.
  • Asset Protection: Custom covers to protect the units outside operating hours, maintaining the brand's aesthetic solidity at the point of sale.

The Strategic Value: Intelligence over Execution
This project remained at the strategic presentation and prototyping stage; its development validated our ability to understand an airline's core business. We can sit down with decision-makers in critical areas (Airport Experience) and deliver solutions that span everything from international manufacturing cost to ergonomics at the terminal.

At SK/Branders, we are driven to think through solutions and design the future of the operation, even before the first prototype reaches the tarmac.
